We\u00c2\u00a0fall into time as a dead leaf into a river.<\/em>\n\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201dDon\u00c2\u00a0Paterson\n\n\nChrono-Man invented\u00c2\u00a0time travel\nby accident, trying to\u00c2\u00a0fit too much\ninto one day. He\u00c2\u00a0stretched time so far\nthat when he let go it\u00c2\u00a0flung him\nlike a stupendous\u00c2\u00a0slingshot\nacross the millennia.\u00c2\u00a0Now he can access\nany temporal continuum\njust by judicious\u00c2\u00a0over-commitment.\nChrono-Man wears LED\u00c2\u00a0knitwear\nthat ripples where it\u00c2\u00a0shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.\nBalding, jowly and\u00c2\u00a0anxious,\nhe has a small potbelly\u00c2\u00a0and a heart condition.\nHe is the champion of\u00c2\u00a0last-minute saves,\nlast-ditch efforts, and\u00c2\u00a0lost causes.\nHis heraldic totem is a\u00c2\u00a0rubber band\ntwisted into a\u00c2\u00a0figure-eight couchant\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\nthe symbol of infinity.\u00c2\u00a0His motto is\nI\u00c2\u00a0can\u00c2\u00a0make\u00c2\u00a0time\u00c2\u00a0for\u00c2\u00a0that.<\/em>\n\nQuicksand is\u00c2\u00a0Chrono-Man\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s arch-enemy.\nAs fast as Chrono-Man\u00c2\u00a0can stretch time\nlike a Spandex Speedo,\u00c2\u00a0Quicksand\ncan spend it: urge it\u00c2\u00a0on faster and faster;\nuse it up. Quicksand\u00c2\u00a0wears a red suit\nwith a spinning\u00c2\u00a0hourglass lapel pin and has\nred\u00e2\u20ac\u201dscarlet\u00e2\u20ac\u201dhair\u00c2\u00a0and eyes, to match his suit.\nHe is a lively date. He\u00c2\u00a0can make time\nspeed up, but not slow\u00c2\u00a0down. He likes to drive\nthe ambitious, and\u00c2\u00a0those who volunteer\nfor more than their\u00c2\u00a0share, to destruction.\nQuicksand is the god of\u00c2\u00a0second thoughts\nand abandoned efforts\u00c2\u00a0and stressing out.\nHis catchphrase:\u00c2\u00a0It\u00c2\u00a0is\u00c2\u00a0later\u00c2\u00a0than\u00c2\u00a0you\u00c2\u00a0think.<\/em>\n\nSpeed\u00c2\u00a0time\u00c2\u00a0up\u00c2\u00a0as\u00c2\u00a0it\u00c2\u00a0stretches,\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0elastic\nof\u00c2\u00a0that\u00c2\u00a0substance\u00c2\u00a0will\u00c2\u00a0snap,\u00c2\u00a0as\u00c2\u00a0Quicksand\nand\u00c2\u00a0Chrono-Man\u00c2\u00a0chase\u00c2\u00a0each\u00c2\u00a0other\nup\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0down\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0time-stream.\u00c2\u00a0You\u00c2\u00a0yourself\nmay\u00c2\u00a0experience\u00c2\u00a0this chronological\u00c2\u00a0effluvium\nas\u00c2\u00a0having some resemblance to an actual\u00c2\u00a0river:\nsometimes\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0current\u00c2\u00a0is\u00c2\u00a0slow\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0stately,\neach\u00c2\u00a0shore\u00c2\u00a0so\u00c2\u00a0far\u00c2\u00a0away\u00c2\u00a0that\u00c2\u00a0it fades\nto\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0dark\u00c2\u00a0fog\u00c2\u00a0of\u00c2\u00a0treeline\u00c2\u00a0on\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0horizon;\nsometimes\u00c2\u00a0a rapid\u00c2\u00a0current\u00c2\u00a0tumbles\u00c2\u00a0you\ndown\u00c2\u00a0titanic\u00c2\u00a0falls.\u00c2\u00a0You\u00c2\u00a0are\u00c2\u00a0only\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0marker\nby\u00c2\u00a0which\u00c2\u00a0that\u00c2\u00a0current\u00c2\u00a0can\u00c2\u00a0be\u00c2\u00a0measured\nwhen\u00c2\u00a0those rivals\u00c2\u00a0meet\u00c2\u00a0at\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0end\u00c2\u00a0of\u00c2\u00a0time\nand\u00c2\u00a0total\u00c2\u00a0up\u00c2\u00a0their\u00c2\u00a0scores.\n\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
