Davitt<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><font face=\"Arial\">\nWhen you go to South America\nand drop a lot of money\nfor an authentic\nspiritual cleanse\nand try to ignore the locals\nlaughing at the tourists\nwho\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re here for an\n<em>ayahuasca&nbsp;<\/em>high colonic\nto the brainstem;\n&nbsp;\nwhen you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve swallowed\nherbal purgatives and laxatives\n(herbal and organic\nare always better,\ndon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you know?),\nand have crouched, quaking,\non a toilet,\nvomiting into a bucket,\nwhile your intestines clarify\nat both ends;\n&nbsp;\nwhen you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve done all these things,\nin search of a sacred,\ntranscendent moment\nof oneness with the universe,\nit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s probably not a wonder,\nthat everyone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s spirit-animal\nturns out to be impressive;\neveryone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always guided\nby something fierce\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\ntigers and lions and bears,\noh my\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\n&nbsp;\nbecause when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve dropped\nseveral thousand dollars\nfor the privilege of\nfeeling like you have the flu\nfor six hours,\nno one wants to know\nthat their spirit-animal is a snail,\nthat the guiding energy in their lives\nis that of a hermit crab,\nand it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hard to dress up\na jellyfish as the ultimate predator\nthat it is, when\nmost people think of them\nas a synonym for spineless.\n&nbsp;\nSo, mysteriously, there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a world\nfull of people out there,\nwith fierce and prideful totems\nstalking through the universe\nat their sides,\nwhen statistically speaking,\nat least ninety percent of eight billion people,\nshould actually be deer,\nor llamas,\nor the occasional inoffensive squirrel.<\/font><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deborah L.
