{"id":672,"date":"2013-04-15T08:00:10","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T15:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.polutexni.com\/?p=672"},"modified":"2013-04-05T19:42:30","modified_gmt":"2013-04-06T02:42:30","slug":"the-cat-and-the-toad-by-james-hutchings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.polutexni.com\/?p=672","title":{"rendered":"The Cat and the Toad, by James Hutchings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE CAT AND THE TOAD<\/p>\n<p>At the dawn of the world on a tree-sheltered road<br \/>\nan agreeable cat met a horrible toad.<br \/>\nWhen the cat saw its neighbor it fearfully shook<br \/>\nfor in those days all creatures would act as they looked<br \/>\nand the toad was all warty, and bulging, and slimy.<br \/>\nThe trembling cat mewed a terrified &#8220;Blimey!&#8221;<br \/>\n(more vigorous oaths had not yet been discovered)<br \/>\nand looked at the evil made plain on the other<br \/>\none hideous sin for each hideous feature.<br \/>\n&#8220;Oh please do not kill me, most wicked of creatures!&#8221;<br \/>\nit begged without hope. But the toad thought awhile<br \/>\nthen it gave what might almost have been called a smile<br \/>\nand it said &#8220;You may keep what you carry within<br \/>\nbut if you are to live, you must give me your skin.&#8221;<br \/>\nNow the cat had no choice, though it bitterly cried<br \/>\nbut to take off its fur and to put on the hide<br \/>\nof the venomous toad, and no creatures had made<br \/>\nsuch a villainous threat, such a terrible trade.<br \/>\nThen the cat hopped away where it once would have strode<br \/>\nfor the toad was a cat, and the cat was a toad.<\/p>\n<p>This explains why the toad, though so utterly charmless<br \/>\nis gentle in nature and totally harmless<br \/>\nwhile cats appear graceful and splendid and good<br \/>\nbut would murder us all in our beds if they could.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE CAT AND THE TOAD At the dawn of the world on a tree-sheltered road an agreeable cat met a horrible toad.
