\nthat you got the world weighing down on your shoulders

\nit’s just the fortune tellers’ curse;

\nSometimes my cards hold water like buckets
\nleft out in the rain,
\nsometimes I feel their edges singe;
\na glass ball is a strange thing,
\nshards beneath my feet, made whole.<\/p>\n
\nwe are not just paint and cardboard, says The Hanged Man
\nbut you’ll have to know us good to know, says The Priestess
\nSwords chatter their blades, not sure why people would read cards
\nand The Devil and The Fool sit smiling, back to back.<\/p>\n
\nBefore we had words on paper,
\nwe had robes dyed bearblood dark;
\npeople knew what we could do,
\nand so did we.<\/p>\n
\nSometimes, I’d rather be the moon than this,
\nalways clear so she can see through me.
\nNobody asks the moon to be glass
\nand nobody asked me whether I wanted to be just
\nher crystal ball<\/p>\n
\nIt is funny to watch her pick the truth apart
\nso she can make a proper fortune of it.
\nSometimes, she works true magic, and that’s a different thing;
\nI’ve never burned so hot
\nas when there’s magic in my flames.<\/p>\n
\nSometimes I wish I could hide in a bearskin,
\nthe bear’s claws and the bear’s teeth my own.<\/p>\n
\nwhen it’s the last thing that they want to hear?<\/p>\n
\nRemember that the moon is dark and wild
\nor starlight bright, yet no more tame.
\nWe are of the moon you and I,
\nand a grain of moondust is wild in all of us.<\/p>\n
\nI have brought boughs of oak, white ash, and last year’s sage,
\nincense and a few coins…<\/p>\n
